How to Catch Scrooms: Tuning and Catch Control
Understand the tuning and catch-zone stages in Scrooms, recognise a successful catch and identify what to check when progress drains.
Equip a catching instrument, start playing, tune to the Scroom and keep its marker inside the catch zone until the progress bar fills. Time inside the zone builds progress; slipping outside drains it. A tuning hit and a completed catch are separate results.
The official description and October 2026 PC tutorial establish this loop. Touch inputs follow the cited controls guide. The exact build and hidden perfect-catch formula are unspecified.

Follow the screen from tuning into the catch
Start with an equipped instrument; owning one in the bag is not enough. The first-session route explains the initial unlock.
- Play and hit the timing promptSelect your catching instrument and play near a Scroom. Click or tap at the circular gauge’s highlighted timing window when prompted. Good! or Perfect! here rates this timing hit; the creature has not been caught yet.
- Match the frequencyHold the frequency control and adjust it while watching the waveform. The tutorial asks you to find the right frequency to speed up tuning. Complete this stage before the Scroom commits; Tune Speed shortens the tuning process.
- Keep the Scroom inside the moving zoneUse the held catch control to follow the zone. Watch the smaller progress meter as well as the creature marker. Correct toward the zone when it moves so the meter can continue filling.
- Wait for the catch resultA full meter produces the caught result. Read its species name and frequency. In the inspected first catch, Gloombell also produces New Index Entry and First Note notifications.
Read the result you actually received
Scroll the table horizontally if needed.
| Screen result | What it confirms |
|---|---|
| Good! or Perfect! at the opening gauge | A rated timing input during tuning; continue the catch. |
| You caught: followed by a species | A successful capture; a new species can also fill an Index entry. |
| Perfect Catch! | The game labelled that completed capture perfect. Do not infer it from the earlier timing label alone. |
| Your Scroom got away… | The catch failed after progress ran out. Start another attempt. |
Use the stage to choose what to check
If the bag is open or the wrong tool is selected, return to the catching instrument. The controls table separates the Equipment Bag, Index and Quest Log.
If the waveform stage is slow, keep correcting the frequency and compare Tune Speed on equipment. If the catch meter drains, bring the marker back inside the zone: buying Tune Speed does not change the official in-zone rule. Repeat a failed attempt rather than assume a specific currency penalty.
